Extensive online resources, including films and software for network analysis, make this a multifaceted companion for anyone with an interest in network science. At any rate, error tolerance is a good thing, but it does mean we are vulnerable to attacks kinda contradictory, imo. Abert-laszlo problems can’t be easily solved from 1st principles. Barabasi describes simple rules that may have tremendous power. This book might be too elementary barabasu some people who albert–laszlo understand networks and the maths behind them.

So this review is really just more for me to remember things than for anyone else. Nov 19, Minutes Buy. Using fetishist terminology doesn’t make the solution to the genetic origin of bipolar disorder any easier. Barabasi uses this section to very ironically criticize reductionism, wihout which the very network maps he studies would not exist!

I would like to see an updated edition of this book come out soon, one that includes the latest research in protein, gene, and microbiome networks.

For example I call my “Hub”-friends “Conectrixes. Scientists and pseudo scientists have been pursuing this mystery for hundreds and perhaps thousands of years. Not quite as accessible as The Tipping Point, but also more realistic and less ‘romanticizing’ of the science.

This book wasn’t what I expected, which meant I had to readjust my mindset going in. The truly important role networks play is in helping existing organisations adapt to rapidly changing market conditions.

A revolutionary new theory showing how we can predict human behavior. The effect is enthralling: In recent years, scientists from a range of fields–including mathematics, physics, computer science, sociology, and biology–have been pursuing these questions and building a new “science of networks.

A treasure really, for all who enjoy these sort of books.

The Formula

Introduction – the book opens with the story of mafiaboy, the teenager that alvert-laszlo to bring down Yahoo. To be honest, I don’t understand much of it, but basically I guess everything is a network.
